FRM Cowboy Block is formulated to be fed on a free choice basis to mature beef cattle while they are grazing pastures with adequate forate or are receiving hay or green-chop. Consumption of FRM Cowboy Block should range from 1.5 – 2.5 pounds per head per day where free choice roughage is available. If consistently high consumption of FRM Cowboy Block is experienced, your feeding program should be examined (see Important Consumption Data, below). It is important that your cattle have been on a high quality free choice mineral such as FRM Vitaminde Free Choice Mineral for at least one week prior to the introduction of the FRM Block. It is also important that your cattle have been receiving adequate forage from grazing, hay or green-chop prior to the introduction of the FRM Cowboy Block.
Cattle that are cleaning up fields that were planted in soybeans or other edible beans should not be fed F-R-M Cowboy Blocks. Raw beans usually contain high urease enzyme activity which can cause urea to break down.
Do not feed F-R-M Cowboy Blocks in conjunction with other NPN-containing feeds.
Provide Vitaminde Free Choice Mineral and an unlimited supply of clean, fresh water while the cattle are on the Blocks.
Once F-R-M Cowboy Blocks have been introduced to your herd, you should maintain a fresh supply of blocks for your cattle at all times. Provide one 500 pound (226.80 kg) Block for every 20-25 head of cattle; one 200 pound (90.72 kg) Block for every 10-13 head of cattle; or one 50 pound (22.68 kg) Block for every 2-3 head of cattle.
Feed F-R-M Cowboy Blocks near a water source or near areas where cattle loaf. On range or in large pastures, make Blocks available in more than one location.
If your cattle run out of Supplement Blocks, observe them closely for three days after restocking with Blocks in order to prevent over-consumption.
IMPORTANT CONSUMPTION INFORMATION
The F-R-M Cowboy Block is fed free choice, therefore, consumption will vary depending on the quality and/or quantity of forage available to the animals, the condition of the cattle, previous feeding programs, type of mineral program being used and their feeding location. Cattle may need to adapt to the F-R-M Cowboy Block before the correct consumption is reached.
If consumption is low, examine forage quality and the block feeding location.
If consumption is higher than desired, the quality and/or quantity of forage may need to be increased. If the forage is adequate, you may want to consider placing the Blocks further away from loafing or watering areas and, at the same time, reducing the number of Blocks available to the cattle.
